(8 March 1931 -- 12 May 2011) +Lloyd Knibb.+ 12/05/2012 Died a year ago today Always BIG-The Skatalites FUNDATION SKA ione of the founding members of The Skatalites +Lloyd Knibb.+ is dead Lloyd Knibb was prominent in the development of Ska to be playing with The Skatalites (from the 60's until his last days) and with Tommy McCook & The Supersonics and work with producers as Lloyd "Matador" Daley and Duke Reid. Knibb, like many musicians in the 1940s, he perfected his art in jazz bands. His first professional engagement was with Val Bennett's band, but it was with Eric Dean's band where he acquired the expertise to play different styles. Knibb's musical abilities led him to work with Coxsone Dodd, Prince Buster, Duke Reid and Sonia Pottinger. Knibb had his greatest success, however, as drummer for The Skatalites. The band recorded for labels such as Jamaican Treasure Isle (Duke Reid), Studio One (Clement Dodd) or Top Deck (Phillip Yap) and achieved great success during the 60! 's. Knibb, along with other members of the Skatalites, they met again to perform at the Reggae Sunsplash in Montego Bay, Jamaica, in July 1983. The success of the session saw The Skatalites reform as a band on tour full time, with whom he remained until his death Knibb in 2011. His last show was in Peru in April 2011. Knibb lived in Hull, Massachusetts, with his friend and musician John, and his wife Adele. His son Dion is a member of the American band of ska Dion Knibb & The Agitators. On May 12, 2011 ...
